Hello, and welcome to another edition of ‘Live-Blogging Shish on Horse Racing’. This Afternoon, it is the Ruidoso Downs’ Late Pick 4 featuring the 2022 Ruidoso Quarter Horse Juvenile and the 2022 Ruidoso Futurity.
 
The Ruidoso Futurity is the first leg of the Quarter Horse Triple Crown. The other races are the Rainbow Futurity and All-American Futurity. All those races are hold at the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack & Casino.  
 
The Ruidoso Futurity is the shortest of the three races. It goes 350 yards. Last Year, Jess Savin Candy won the Ruidoso and Rainbow, but was denied the Triple Crown by KJ Desparado.
 
This year, the morning line favorite is a 2-year gelding named Otts Boy. He will be the #8 horse in the race.
 
Here are the races in the Late Pick 4 at Ruidoso Downs:
 

​Race 7, Thoroughbred, 6 furlongs, Dirt, 7 horses, Maiden Claiming, $6.6K:
For the first leg of the Late Pick 4, it is a battle of thoroughbred geldings 3-years-old and up. There is one scratch in this race. #1 CD Poldarc is a scratch. While the favorite of this race is #4 Chippster. His morning line is 5-2 odds. There are two long shots in this race at 10-1. #3 Indians Nights and #6 Super Hunk are the long shots.
20 MTP: #1 CD Poldrac is a scratch. Super Hunk opens up at 6-5 favorite. 
15 MTP: #3 Indian Nights is a 15-1 long shot. While #4 Chippster is an even-odd favorite.
10 MTP: #5 Okie City is at his morning line of 9-2.
5 MTP: #7 Tab Me Out is near his morning line of 3-1. He is at 7-2.
2 MTP: Chippster is the favorite at 6-5. While #2 Dude Row is an 8-1 long shot. And TMO is at his morning line at 3-1.

Race 8 (Ruidoso Quarter Horse Juvenile Stakes), 350 yards, Dirt, 12 horses, $100K:
The second leg of the Late Pick 4 is the Ruidoso Quarter Horse Juvenile Stakes. The five fastest of each day of the trials, who didn’t get into the Ruidoso Futurity. There are two scratches in this race. #11 Jesstapoliticalgirl and #12 Whirlaway Valentine are the scratches. The long shot of this race is #7 Stone Cold Dynasty at 20-1. While the favorite of this race is #5 Rock a Jess V at 3-1.

15 MTP: #5 Rock a Jess V is a 2-1 favorite.

In the penultimate race for Ruidoso Downs’ slate of races, it is a thoroughbred race. One scratch in this race. #4 StellarsBlueRibbon is the scratch. #8 Evacuee is the favorite at 5-2. And #1 Next Affair and #5 Cerveza are the 12-1 long shots.

20 MTP: #7 Tucum is a 2-1 favorite. 
15 MTP: #4 StellarsBlueRibbon is a scratch.
10 MTP: NA is a 17-1 long shot. 
5 MTP: #3 Stormin Fast is at his morning line of 8-1.
2 MTP: Evacuee is back as the favorite at 8-5. NA is an 18-1 long shot.

Race 10 (Ruidoso Quarter Horse Futurity), 350 yards, Dirt, 10 horses, $1 Million:
Finally, it is the first leg of the Quarter Horse Triple Crown Futurities, The Ruidoso Futurity. As mentioned, #8 Otts Boy is the favorite. While #9 Beneficial is the 30-1 long shot. #4 BV Higher Power a scratch.

20 MTP: OB is the favorite at 2-1.
15 MTP: #3 Ride Around is the 25-1 long shot.
10 MTP: #7 Chasing AJ & OB are 5-2 co-favorites. 
5 MTP: #4 BV Higher Power is a scratch. And Powerful joins Chasing AJ as a 5-2 co-favorites. While OB is at 3-1.
2 MTP: Chasing AJ is a 2-1 favorite. While #5 Hes JudgeandJury is a 21-1 long shot.

Otts Boy wins the 2022 Ruidoso Quarter Horse Futurity!  His odds were 7-2. He will earn wagers $9.20. $1 Exacta (8-1) paying out $24.50. $1 Trifecta (8-1-5) paying out $277.40. $0.10 Superfecta (8-1-5-3) paying out $150.98.  $0.50 Late Pick 4 (1,4/5/5/8) paying out $1074.20. 

Final Thoughts:
Whoever CD Poldrac or Chippster, Rock a Jess V, Cerveza, and Otts Boy, they won $1074. 20. 

Rock a Jess V was able to overcome bumping into #3 Aristides to win the 2022 Ruidoso Quarter Horse Juvenile. 

But the big winner of Today's slate of races is Otts Boy is the big winner of the $1 Million Ruidoso Quarter Horse Futurity. He had a clear path in this race. And now he takes the First Leg of the Quarter Horse Triple Crown. 

The second leg of the Quarter Horse Triple Crown will happen on July 24th, as the $1 Million Rainbow Futurity will happen back at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack & Casino.
