Live-Blogging: San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners 09/13/2022

9/13/2022

Hello, and welcome to another edition of ‘Live-Blogging Shish on Baseball’. Tonight, it is an interleague matchup with postseason implications, San Diego Padres take on Seattle Mariners.

Padres are trying to avoid a swoon for the 2nd consecutive season. They added Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and Josh Hader. But it is still a struggle for the Friars, as they are only 2 games ahead of Milwaukee Brewers for the final NL Wild Card Spot.

For the Mariners, they are looking like they will improve upon last year. Last year, they were a couple of games short of making the postseason. This year, they are in the postseason by a few games over the Orioles. As Seattle is fighting Tampa Bay & Toronto for AL Wild Card positioning.

Tonight’s Starting Pitchers are a pair of right-handers. Yu Darvish will start for the Padres. While Logan Gilbert will go for the Mariners.

Darvish comes in with a pitches/plate appearance of 3.85. His strikeout/walk ratio is 4.94. And his groundout/airout is 0.79.

As for Gilbert, he comes in with a P/PA 3.93. His K/BB ratio is 3.60. And his GO/AO is 0.70.

It is San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners, coming up shortly.

Final Thoughts:
Padres worked the pitch count on Logan Gilbert and got a RBI from Wil Myers, scoring Jake Cronenworth in the Top of 4th Inning. That was all Yu Darvish needed, as he went 8 shutout innings. Padres get an insurance run off a Julio Rodriguez fielding error. And Josh Hader slammed the door in the Bottom of 9th Inning, to end the Game.

For the Mariners, they couldn't hit off Yu and Hader Tonight. Only 3 hits for Seattle. And the costly error in the Top of 9th Inning.

With the Padres win, they are still mathematically alive in the NL West. As their elimination number is 1 (Dodger win or Padres loss), for that division. They hold their lead for the Final NL Wild Card to the Brewers to 2 games.

The Mariners loss and Astros win, puts Seattle's elimination number to 8 games. They are tied with Tampa Bay Rays for the 2nd AL Wild Card. And Mariners are 5 games ahead of Baltimore Orioles, for the Final Wild Card Spot.

Padres and Mariners will play again Tomorrow Afternoon in Seattle. As Mike Cleavinger will start for the Padres. While Mariners will start with Luis Castillo.
