UFC Fight Night Boise: Dos Santos vs. Ivanov

Hello and welcome to another edition of ‘Live Blogging on Shish on Mixed Martial Arts’. Tonight the UFC will head to Boise, for one of their Fight Nights. This Live Blog will cover the Main Card. Here are the fights on Tonight’s Main Card.

Cat Zingano vs. Marion Reneau (Women’s Bantamweight Bout):

In the first bout, it is a women’s bantamweight fight between Cat Zingano and Marion Reneau. This is a fight between two Americans. Zingano is 9-3, while Reneau is 9-3-1.

Reneau lands more strikes and is better at defending against strikes. While Zingano is more accurate and absorbs fewer strikes per minute. Zingano average takedowns. But Reneau is more accurate, defends takedowns better, and averages more takedowns.

Their Tale of the Tape is similar except in leg reach, where Reneau is an inch longer.

​Myles Jury vs. Chad Mendes (Featherweight Bout):

​In this featherweight bout, Myles Jury takes on Chad Mendes, in another battle of Americans. Jury comes in with a record of 17-2, while Mendes comes in with a record of 17-4.

They are about even in landing significant strikes per minute. Mendes is more accurate, while Jury absorbs fewer strikes and is a better defender. As far as grappling is concerned, Mendes has better takedown average, along with defending takedowns. While both fighters are even in takedown accuracy and submissions average.

Jury has an advantage in height, reach, and leg reach.

Randy Brown vs. Niko Price (Welterweight Bout):

In this welterweight fight, Jamaican Randy Brown, takes on American Niko Price. Brown is 10-2, while Price is 11-1-0, NC.

Brown has advantage in landing significant strikes, accuracy, and absorbs fewer strikes per minute. Price is a better defender of strikes. Price averages more takedowns, defends more takedowns, and produced more submissions. While Brown is more accurate in his takedowns.

Brown has advantages in height, reach, and leg reach.

Dennis Bermudez vs. Rick Glenn (Featherweight Bout):

In this featherweight bout features two Americans. Dennis Bermudez takes on Rick Glenn. Bermudez is 17-8, while Glenn is 20-5-1.

Bermudez is slightly better than Glenn, when it comes to significant strikes. Bermudez is also better in grappling than Glenn.

However Glenn has advantages in the Tale of the Tape.

Co-Main Event: Sage Northcutt vs. Zak Ottow (Welterweight Bout):

In the Co-Main Event, it is a welterweight fight between Sage Northcutt and Zak Ottow. Northcutt comes in with a record of 10-2, while Ottow comes in with a record of 16-5.

Although the two fighters are evenly matched, when it comes to defending significant strikes. Northcutt is better than Ottow in significant strikes landed, accuracy, fewer strikes absorbed per minute. As far as grappling, Northcutt has the edge in takedowns and submissions average. While Ottow is slightly better in accuracy and takedowns defended.

The Tale of the Tape is evenly split. Northcutt has the edge in height. While Ottow has a 1-Inch reach advantage.

​Main Event: Junior Dos Santos vs. Blagoy Ivanov (Heavyweight Bout):
In the Main Event of the Evening, Brazilian Junior Dos Santos takes on Bulgarian Blagoy Ivanov. The Former UFC Champ Dos Santos is 18-5, while Ivanov is 16-1-1.

Dos Santos has advantages in height and reach. While Ivanov has an advantage in leg reach.

Round 1:
Zingano is in all black. While Reneau is in blue.
4:45: Reneau opens up with a kick.
4:20: Reneau nails Zingano with a punch.
4:05: Zingano takes down Reneau.
3:41: Both fighters get back up, from the mat.
2:50: Reneau has Zingano pinned on the cage.
2:28: Reneau pulled guard, but Zingano counters with a slam on the mat.
1:58: Both fighters get back up on the mat.
:44: Zingano tags Reneau with a punch.
:24: Reneau pins Zingano to the cage.
:12: Zingano takes down Reneau, to the mat.

My Guess: Zingano 10-9

:4:08: Reneau starts with some strikes, but Zingano takes her down.
:3:40: Both fighters back up, off the mat.
:3:40: Zingano successfully leg sweeps Reneau, for a moment.
:3:25: Zingano takes down Reneau. 
:2:25: Zingano lets Reneau back off the mat.
1:50: Reneau defends another takedown attempt by Zingano.
1:20: Renau hits a jab. Zingano counters with a leg kick.
1;00: Zingano successfully takes down Reneau.

My Guess: Zingano 10-9.

Round 3:
3:57: Zingano continues her dominance of this fight with another takedown.
3:30: Zingano tries for a rear naked choke, but Reneau defended the hold.
2;00: Zingano with some body shots, while having Reneau on the ground.
:40: Zingano on top position for most of this fight.
:00: The end of the fight.
My Guess: Zingaon wins Round 3, 10-9. Final Score: 30-27.

Cat Zingano wins by unanimous decision. 

Myles Jury vs. Chad Mendes:
​Jury is in black trunks. Mendes is in gray trunks.
4:20: Jury lands with a leg kick.
3:48: Mendes hits with a leg kick.
3:28: Jury with a leg kick to the head.
3:03: Jury lands with a knee to the head.
2:33: Mendes tags Jury with a punch to the head.
2:15: Mendes nailing Jury with some punches to the end.
2:10: Referee Herzog ends the fight.
Result: Mendes wins by KO/TKO

Randy Brown vs. Niko Price:
Brown is in grayish-black trunks. Price is in blue trunks.
4:35: Brown lands a leg kick.
4:07: Brown last part of combo connets on Price.
3;43: Price lands a right hand.
3;20: Price lands a leg kick.
2:45: Price has Brown pinned to the cage.
2:33: Price takes down Brown. 
1:47: Price is on top of Brown.
1:20: Price tried for a triangluar choke. 
1:15: Both fighters get back up from the mat.
1:05: Brown flips Price over on to the mat.
:24: Price is now on top of Briown.
:10: Brown lands a knee.
:00: The end of Round 1.

Round 2: 
4:00: Brown dominates the ground.
3:51: As Brown was on the cage in top position of Price, Price KO's Brown with a combination of hammer fists. Price's punches pushed Brown's head onto the cage, causing the Jamacian to go to sleep. 
Result: Price wins by KO/TKO.

3:52: Glenn leans with some jabs.

2:28: Bermudez tried for a takedown, but is unable to succeed.

My Guess: Bermudez wins Round 3. Bermudez wins the fight, 29-28. 

Result: Rick Glenn wins by split decision.

Co-Main Event: Sage Northcutt vs. Zak Ottow:
​Northcutt is in gray trunks. Ottow is in black trunks.

4:58: Ottow takesdown Northcutt.
4:17: Ottow with some body shot.
4:07: Northcutt with a kick, from the ground.
3:33: Ottow is on top of Northcutt, on the mat.
3:04: Ottow fails to get a guillotine. 
2:44: Northcutt looking for an armbar, from the bottom.
1:42: Ottow gets himself in Northcutt's clutches. The Milwaukee Native is still on top of the 22-year-old Texan.

My Guess: Ivanov wins 10-9. Dos Santos wins fight 48-47. 

Result: Dos Santos wins by unanimous decision.

Final Thoughts:
Dos Santos could have used some grappling to finish the fight vs. Ivanov. But he gets the unanimous decision, with a good strike game.
Northcutt had some trouble in Round 1 vs. Ottow, but Northcutt took over the fight from the end of Round 1 to the KO/TKO by the Texan. Glenn wins the fight, that could have gone Bermudez's way. Niko Price hammer fists his way to victory over Randy Brown. Chad Mendes returns with a Round 1 KO/TKO. And Cat Zingano looked dominate vs. Marion Reneau.
