UFC 216 Prelims at Las Vegas, NV

Hello and welcome to another edition of 'Live Blogging on Shish on Sports'. Tonight it is UFC 216 Prelims. There will be four fights. 

The first fight of the night is a Flyweight bout between American Matt Schnell and Marco Beltran. Schnell is 10-4, while Beltran is 8-6. Schnell the more aggressive striker and better grappler. Beltran the better defender of strikes.

The second fight of the Prelims is a women's strawweight bout as Brazilian Poliana Bothelo makes her UFC debut, as she will face American Pearl Gonzalez. Gonzalez is 6-2, 

The third fight of the Prelims is between a pair of American lightweights, Lando Vannata and Bobby Green. Vannata is 9-2, while Green is 23-8. Vannata the better striker.  Green the better defender of strikes and grappler. 

​And the final fight of the Prelims is a battle of bantamweights.  Frenchman Tom Duquesnoy and American Cody Stamann.  Both fighters are 15-1.  Duquesnoy looks like a slightly better striker. Stamann the better defender of strikes and grappler.

Round 1:
Schnell in red. Beltran in white. 
3:00: Slow start in this fight. 
1:40: Schnell just recently a battle of strikes. 
1:25: Schnell won another round of strikes.

Round 2: 
:14: Fight appears to be a stand still. 
Looked Even.

Round 3:
​4:15: Nice defense by Schnell. 
3:03: Beltran with some swelling on the right eye.
Advantage Schnell.

Winner by decision: Matt Schnell.

Gonzalez vs. Bothelo:
Round 1:
​Gonzalez in black.
Bothelo in white.
Bothelo holding Gonzalez by the cage. 
3:00: Bothelo landing some elbows on Gonzalez. 
2:13: Bothelo and Gonzalez trade knees by the cage. 
2:00: Ref tells them to move away from the cage.
1:40: Both combatants move back to the cage.
End of Round 1: Advantage Bothelo

Round 2:
4:18: Gonzalez moves Bothelo to the cage. Good takedown defense by Bothelo.
2:47: Bothelo throwing some elbows on Gonzalez by the cage.
1:27: Ref breaks the fighters up and away from the cage.
:15: Gonzalez tries for another takedown. Bothelo defends the takedown.
End of Round 2. Advantage Bothelo

Round 3:
​4:30: Bothelo landing some kicks.
4:20: Bothelo wins a round of strikes. Gonzalez brings Bothelo back to the cage.
3:04: Bothelo looking like she could have used a standing guillotine on Gonzalez, but doesn't capitalize.
2:09: Bothelo striking on Gonzalez, while Gonzalez tries to takedown Bothelo. 
1:33: Gonzalez tries to take Bothelo down, but fails. Both fighters are by the cage.
:33: Referee breaks them back away from the cage. 
:10: Bothelo takes down Gonzalez. 
End of Round 3: Advantage Bothelo.

Poliana Bothelo wins by unanimous decision.

Vannata vs. Green:

Round 1:
​Green in white.
Vannata in blue.
4:37: Green lands a kick on Vannata.
3:54: Green gets a little off-balanced.
3:30: Green moves Vannata to the cage.
3:20: Vannata kicks Green to the back of the head. Both fighters still standing.
2:55: Vannata gets Green on the ground.
2:47: Vannata knees Green while trying to get back up on the ground.
Replay shows Vannata grazes Green on a thigh.
2:40: Fight continues, Vannata loses a point.
2:16: Vannata has Green on a guillotine.
1:00: Vannata becoming the aggressor in this stage of the fight.
:18: Vannata takes down Green in the middle of the mat.
End of Round 1: Draw due to point deduction for Vannata.

Round 2:
​4:50: Vannata misses a roundhouse kick.
4:32: Vannata landing with some kicks.
4:16: Green moves Vannata with some kicks.
3:54: Crowd wooing.
3:15: Vannata's nose is busted up.
2:40: Green is starting to land his jabs to the face.
2;12: Vannata takes down Green away from the cage.
1:46: Green gets Vannata's leg. Vannata gets out of the hold, takes down by Green.
1:10: Vannata starting to land his punches on Green.
:54: Vannata is bleeding bad out of the bridge of his nose.
End of Round 2: Advantage Vannata.

Round 3:
​4:50: Green lost his footing trying to block a kick by Vannata.
3:48: Vannata fails a takedown attempt.
3:20: Vannata with a better significant strike percentage, according to FX.
2:43: Green moves Vannata to the cage, in a failed attempt for a takedown.
2:00: Vannata lands a punch to the face.
1:38: Green lands a soft uppercut.
1:00: Both fighter jocking for position on the ground.
;40: Both fighters back standing.
:30: Green has Vannata on the cage.
:05: Green lands a punch to the Vannata's nose. Vannata still standing. 
End of Round 3: Advantage Green

The fight ends in the draw.

Duquesnoy vs. Stamann 
​Round 1:
Stamann in gray.
Duquesnoy in black.
4:08: Stand still.
3:45: Stamann takes down Duquesnoy.
3:40: Duquesnoy gets back up off the ground.
3:00: Duquesnoy with a kick to the leg.
2:32: Stamann lands a punch.
2:20: Duquesnoy lands a punch.
2:09: Stamann with a takedown.
1:40: Duquesnoy trying to get back up.
1:30: Duquesnoy gets back up off the mat.
1:20: Referee stops the fight, with an apparent eye injury by Stamann.
:45: Stamann lands a punch.
:25: Duquesnoy lands a punch to the face of Stamann.
End of Round 1: Advantage Duquesnoy.

Round 2:
4:45: Stamann lands a kick to the midsection.
4:07: Stamann lands a kick to the shin.
3:09: Duquesnoy lands a punch to the head, that made Stamann move to the cage.
2:37: Stamann with a takedown in the middle of the mat.
1:49: Duquesnoy had a triangle on Stamann.
1:33: Both fighters back on their feet.
1:10: Stamann lands a defensive kick to the midsection.
1:05: Stamann takes down Duquesnoy in the middle of the mat.
​:05: Stamann lands some punches, while Duquesnoy was on the ground. 
End of Round 2: Advantage Stamann.

Round 3:
​2;50: A lot of dancing by both fighters.
2:28: Stamann tried for a rush, but Duquesnoy moved away.
1:55: Stamann lands a punch to face.
:56: Stamann corners Duquesnoy, and lands a combo.
:30: Stamann lands a kick to the knee.
:18: Duquesnoy takes down Stamann to the ground.
:05: Stamann gets back up.

Stamann wins by split decision.

Final Thoughts:
Well it looks like the best fight of the night was the draw fought by Lando Vannata and Bobby Green.
